NBA ALL-STAR GAME D-LEAGUE
Introduction:
The NBA All-Star Game D-League or the Development League is the developmental organization of basketball that is officially sponsored by the National Basketball Association. Until the summer of the year 2005, it was known as the National Basketball Development League. It started with eight teams. The National Basketball Association commissioner, Mr. David Stern decided to expand the D-League from its eight teams, to fifteen teams. He also decided to develop the league into a firm system of the minor league in which each D-League team would share two of the National Basketball Association teams. The D-League expanded its base to California for the first time in February 2006. Many former players from the National Basketball Association Draft and also the waived players have become a part of the development league. Some of the players of the development league have gone on to have successful careers in the NBA. These players include Matt Carrol, Rafer Alston, Chris Andersen, Bobby Simmons, Devin Brown and Mikki Moore.
Player Allocations of the Development League:
The players of the development league cannot enter into a contract with the individual teams. They are contracted by the league itself. The roster of the development league consists of twelve players. Out of these players, ten are D-League players, while two are from the NBA players. The roster of the league is made up in numerous ways which include players from the previous year, players taken in the draft of the D-League, players having local connections with the teams that they are assigned with, the local tryouts and the NBA team appointments. |
