NBA ALL-STAR GAME
About the Game:
NBA All-Star Game is a National Basketball Association game that was played for the first time in Boston Gardens. The day chosen for the event was 2nd March, 1951. Since its inception, the all star game gained success in finding the finest players for the Eastern and Western Conference. Currently, 2 methods are employed for the selection of the players of the game. The first method is through fan ballot wherein the player getting the maximum votes is placed in sequential order beginning from the initiation of the game. The second method is employed by poll conduction amongst the veteran coaches of every squad of specific conference. Coaches are not allowed to caste a vote for the player who belongs to their respective team. In case of injury to the player, a replacement player is appointed.
Miscellaneous:
Presently, the coach who supervises the team and achieves maximum victories by Sundays, which is 2 weeks prior to the actual game gets apportioned to that specific conference. However, as per the Riley Rule, the same coach is not permitted to lead the team for back to back seasons. The selection pattern for the season 2006 & 07 was very exclusive for the fact that it witnessed an increased number of injured players of the all star game. Many players such as Eddy Curry, Zach Randolph and Carmelo Anthony were not happy with the picking procedure of the game. A remarkable magazine carried out a coverage of all the NBA stars and remarked that it is the NBA that picks the team and not otherwise. |
